thanks to a new friend i made on friday, i got tickets to watch pgltm. she gave me two tickets, for which i brought my mom for. she definitely loved it. thanks, nina~!!
this is by far one of malaysia’s best performance ever~! i really hate to make the direct comparison, but if u thought "m! the opera" was good, well, put it this way, puteri gunung ledang was an amazing performance. they say the first show was better, and i’ve only managed to catch the encore performance. its ok, since i did not watch the first season, i’ll not compare and appreciate the encore as it is.
from an artistic point of view, the choreography of the dance was fairly simple. the cast were not syncronised with the movements, and this is not a bad thing. each of them had character, they portrayed a different energy which were synergized with the whole plot. it was beautiful, just absorbing into the performance that they made. they were all individually unique.
but what made this show special was that the actors were so into their roles, you can actually feel the emotions in the story that they were trying to tell. their singing were like voices of an orchestra, each a different instrument that blended and harmonised so well together.
of course, i would say that comparing to the movie, stephen rahman-hughes played a much better hang tuah than m nasir. u cannot dismiss the fact that he is good looking, and can be quite cheeky on stage. he would make subtle expressions, that when caught, it would be really funny and will get us laughing..
hughes had much better stage presence, and soulful voice, and of course the charms and good looks to match tiara jacquelina as the puteri gunung ledang.
i initially thought that tiara jacquelina was a malay, and after reading her profile, she is actually a chindian (chinese-indian heritage). which explains her exotic looks and her powerful voice. her life long dream to perform and act as a princess in distress has finally came true
a ‘true’ love story coming to life, our authentic version of romeo and juliet.
i cried btw…
mom bought the soundtrack, i’ve yet to put it in my playlist… have to wait for the chance to get it out of her cd player, hehe
